Predator and Prey Edition 4/10/13
The Kangaroo rat has a list of predators. The kangaroo rat is in trouble. The predators are coyotes, snakes, badgers, foxes, owls, domestic dogs and cats, etc.
Right now, kangaroo rats are not endangered, but are decreasing every second. The San Diego Zoo is trying to prevent that by tagging them to find out where they travel, and they go to different places to find kangaroo rats and defend them from predators
This is their web site http://blog.sandiegozooglobal.org/2011/11/23/protecting-kangaroo-rats/. They are hunted all night. Luckily, they sleep during the day so they are less vulnerable from other predators and the desert tempatures. They can also jump 9 feet, but that will only help with predators that have a small striking range. Some snakes do so that's why it is helpful. They also live in burrows so the bigger predators such as coyotes and foxes have to dig and will possibly give up half way through. Sadly, they only live 2-5 years long. They get hunted, but it doesn't change anything. They still die at 2-5 years. Thats all about predator and prey.
